The Axe Valley Pedallers have just held their first ‘Tweed Run’. A cycling event of an informal nature, yet traditional style, where cyclists gathered, cycled a short distance and then settled down to enjoy a cream tea together on a sunny English Spring day.
Sebastian Cope the Charity Officer for Axe Valley Pedallers, is raising funds for Headway Devon and came up with the idea of the Tweed Run as a way of collecting sponsorship and also to encourage cyclists to doff their lycra and don their tweed.

Madal Meets Local Cycling Legend |

Alistair ‘Madal’ Cope, a member of the Axe Valley Pedallers cycle club, working as a cycle adviser for The Prostate Cancer Charity, recently met up with both Andy Parker the Regional Events Officer for British Cycling, and the local cycling legend Roy Hopkins. It was a blustery day on the seafront of Roy’s home town Teignmouth, and so the three took shelter in a cafe and huddled round a table with mugs of hot tea in their hands to discuss, as well you might guess, ‘cycling’!

Cycling Fun on the Piazza Terracina |

Despite an overcast sky and a rather chilly wind, Exeter Cycling Fun Day was a huge success with loads of people crowded into the Piazza Terracina, near the Canal Basin. Dragon, Deegee, Sono, Sidney Pickles, Barley and Madal all turned up to hand out leaflets for the Tour Ride. Baba and Mole with their respective families also turned up to enjoy the cycling spectacle.

Despite ‘doing our bit’ for climate change and riding whenever we can, the Axe Valley Pedallers will always be out whatever the weather!
The mountain bikers have been making the most of the winter conditions in preparation for the longer, lighter, warmer evenings by getting out on the many bridleways and tracks we have in our beautiful East Devon, and sometimes further afield.

Our thanks go to George ‘Gopher’ Gori of Soanes Cycles who has sponsored Axe Valley Pedallers for 2010. George has been very supportive of AVP since we started just over 5 years ago and will often be seen speeding along in our club colours.
