Tim Raphael of the Cycle1 cycle shop in Honiton was pleased to meet up with Dean Downing of the Rapha Condor Sharp cycle team and the winner of the Tour Series stage in Exeter. Dean also won the stage in Exeter last year and was delighted to help support the South West Tour Ride, by meeting up with Tim and holding up a very important cycle jersey.

The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride is, is one of three cycling events being staged around the country as part of the charity's Unite By Cycling initiative. It aims to raise funds and awareness of the disease by bringing people together on two wheels. The South West Tour Ride on the 5th September, will take people on a scenic route through Devon and Somerset, offering a unique opportunity for riders of all abilities to experience all or part of Stage Four of The Tour of Britain from Minehead to Teignmouth, just days before the professional riders take to the roads.

Riders can either attempt the Pro Ride, tackling the full 175km, or the Challenge Ride, taking in the last 70km, from Honiton to Teignmouth. Tim Raphael said “I was delighted to meet Dean Downing and to hold up with him the jersey that has been signed by Team Sky’s Edvald Boasson Hagen, who took the Stage win in Bideford last year on his way to winning the overall Yellow Jersey in The Tour of Britain 2009”. Tim went on to say “This is a great opportunity for Honiton to celebrate cycling with the Challenge Ride starting in town and also the Tour of Britain passing through just over a week later”.

The cycle jersey Tim and Dean were holding can be seen in Tim’s shop in Honiton and can be won! Participants from Devon who enter for either of the above distances will automatically be entered into a draw for the jersey signed by Team Sky’s Edvald Boasson Hagen.
