East Devon's future Olympic hopefuls?
The Tour Series city centre cycle racing in Exeter last year was a huge success and inspired cyclists all over East Devon to get on their bikes. This year’s race is being held on the 3rd of June and three local cycling clubs Exeter Wheelers, C S Dynamo (Exmouth) and Axe Valley Pedallers have taken this opportunity to encourage East Devon’s cyclists to have a go at racing for themselves.

With the help of the South West’s British Cycling Events Co-ordinator Andrew Parker and Zsolt Schuller, Cycling Officer for Devon County Council they have worked hard to set up a series of 3 events that give young and novice cyclists a taste of racing and the chance to learn new bike skills. Entry level “Go Ride” events encourage anyone to try racing without specialist equipment, Lycra or even club membership. All bikes and abilities are catered for and there is even a bit of bike maintenance and advice on the day.

Sunday the 23rd of May saw the start of the series with the inaugural event attracting an enthusiastic crowd of riders young and old. They enjoyed a superb, sunny morning of cycling on a safe, traffic free circuit. With a bit of creativity the organisers turned a dull car park into an exciting race circuit that allowed the novice racers to hone their skills before taking in some racing.

The collaboration between the three clubs has proved extremely successful and they were delighted with the success of this first event. They are looking forward to the next two events that take place at the Honiton Road Park and Ride car park, Exeter on Sunday 6th and 20th June, signing on starts at 9:30am. All are welcome, you just need to bring a road worthy bike and youngsters also need to bring a responsible adult.

A massive thank you to CS Dynamo, Exeter Wheelers and Barley, Quiff, Nelly and Sooty who flew the flag for AVP.  Thanks also to Ann & Richard for the photos and hand holding.

If you or your children are interested in taking part in the next events more details can be found in the fourms http://www.axevalleypedallers.org.uk/forums?task=viewtopic&id=661&p=2
