Axe Valley Pedallers are a community based cycling club based in Seaton on the beautiful East Devon coast. We pride ourselves on catering for all levels of cyclist. If you ride a bike with a shopping basket on the front or the latest TT machine dripping with carbon you are welcome and most importantly you will never be left behind.
Keen to support other like minded community based social cycling groups Axe Valley Pedallers recently joined the newly formed Honiton Cycling Club for a joint Sunday ride.
AVP is a comparatively young club on the Devon cycling scene yet already has a significant membership and caters for a diverse range of cycling interests. One of the motivating factors that led to the formation of Honiton's new club was to provide the same inclusive cycling opportunities for all that has proved such a success for the AVP.
Glenn Morgan, a Honiton resident and member of both clubs said "it's a formula that has proved undeniably successful for AVP and I'm delighted that Honiton now has its own club". He went on to say "as today's turn out demonstrates there is clearly a very strong demand for such a club here and I'm sure it will be a great success". Even though HCC has only been running for four months it already has a significant membership and it's expected the club will see further growth as the weather improves with the coming of spring.
Nearly thirty riders met at St. Paul's church in Honiton High Street and were given the choice of two different routes to Escot House. The “little and often” ride was lead by Maureen Philips, a qualified cycle instructor and member of HCC, while the longer route was lead by Glenn Morgan. The shorter route led riders out through Gittisham, Ottery St. Mary and then on to Escot. The longer ride took the two clubs up to Honiton Golf club, along Farway Common Road and back to East Hill strips before dropping down to Tipton St. John and on to Escot where both groups rejoined for well earned refreshments. Aided by good weather the event proved to be a real success and the two clubs expect to get together again in the near future.
Both clubs welcome riders of all abilities and interests. HCC have their next social meeting on March the 9th at 7pm in The Orange Tree, Honiton whilst AVP ride every Thursday at 6:30pm from the Kings Arms, Seaton.
