National Bike Week is an annual country-wide event aimed at encouraging people of all abilities to get on bike and find out how much fun it is. The Axe Valley Pedallers had their fifth family cycle that fitted in well with this year's National Bike Week focus to encourage families to get out and ride together.
As always there was a good turnout with a total of 79 riders of all ages and abilities. Once everyone was kitted out with balloons, wheel spinners and stickers Madal gave a pre-ride welcome speech and then handed over to the four ride leaders to explain their rides.
The four rides covered mountain bike riders, a children's ride, occasional/new riders and those who like to get a move on! We all set off at around 10.30am and after being out enjoying the lovely countryside, sunshine and for some of us a cup of tea or an ice-cream, we regrouped at the old concrete bridge at Axmouth Harbour at 12.00 for our group photo. This was followed by the noisy part of the day - our parade along the esplanade with flags and balloons flying, bells ringing, horns blaring and generally making sure everyone enjoying the peace of the seaside knew we were there!
The cherry on the cake of our wonderful ride was a pedallers picnic in the Cliff Field gardens where we all had a lovely lunch in the sunshine chatting and getting to know our new riders.
All in all, another successful and fun day out was had by all.
