Seaton was host to it’s second annual festival of cycling which this year supported the inaugural ride of The Great Tour, a 64 day circumnavigation of Britain.
The Festival got off to a wonderful start with a candlelit procession starting at the Town Hall at dusk. Huge crowds turned out to see the fabulous Fire and Ice majorettes do a display before leading the procession down to the seafront.

Friday the 2nd of July sees the start of the Seaton Festival of Cycling 2010. The weekend’s festivities kick off with a torchlight parade on Friday night to welcome The Great Tour riders. Wave off The Great Tour at 10:30am on Saturday morning on the Esplanade as they begin their extraordinary charity circumnavigation of the British mainland. Among the riders will be TV doctor Tristan Gemmill and our very own Alistair 'Madal' Cope. You can also ride with The Great Tour as they leave Seaton, more details here.

The roundabout, or should we say Pedalabout (as it has been named by local cyclists) at Fisherman’s Gap on Seaton’s seafront has just been officially launched as a joint community project between Seaton Town Council and the local cycle club Axe Valley Pedallers.

More news and photos to follow shortly on what turned out to be a brilliantly successful day for Axe Valley Pedallers and their National Bike Week rides. 70 plus cyclists took part in the day and most of them joined in, on one of the 5 rides on offer, which included mountain bike riding, road rides, family rides and a first for this year, an electric bike ride!

Tim Raphael of the Cycle1 cycle shop in Honiton was pleased to meet up with Dean Downing of the Rapha Condor Sharp cycle team and the winner of the Tour Series stage in Exeter. Dean also won the stage in Exeter last year and was delighted to help support the South West Tour Ride, by meeting up with Tim and holding up a very important cycle jersey.
