Madal's 100 miler - Sunday 7th June PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 23 March 2009 17:38
altThis years Madal’s 100 will take us to Haytor on Dartmoor. This is the 5th Madal’s 100 and a pedal to Dartmoor should provide a grand tour of some outstandingly beautiful Devon countryside.

With the usual early start of 06:30 hours, our route will take us up to and along the Stockland Strip, turning left towards Honiton and then the cathedral city of Exeter. Onwards and steadily upwards we travel west to Moretonhampstead and then to Haytor via some typical Dartmoor lanes with high granite banks.

On Easter Sunday the Axe Valley Pedallers took to the Granite way in the spring sunshine for a leisurely 25 mile ride from Okehampton to Lydford and back. An early attempt by Foggie to sabotage the ride by having a clipless pedal malfunction failed despite nearly squashing ride leader, Quiff.

Calshot Velodrome PDF Print E-mail

altThe Axe Valley Pedallers have just returned from their latest visit to the Calshot velodrome in Hampshire. Hurtling round the 142-meter track at 50 kph, on a single speed fixed wheel (no freewheel) bicycle without brakes, is not for the faint hearted!  11 members of the club took part and for 7 of them it was their first experience at this type of cycling.

Harold “Harry” Jackson, who represented Great Britain in the 1964 and 1968 Olympics, ran the session for us.

We're getting to be regulars on BBC One now.  We had our recent news article about the Stopline Way on Spotlight and there's our regular slot in the Capes ident most evenings.

So how can we possibly move forward from there?

How about AVP Tv?  Yep, you've guessed it, we made our own tv!

During our recent trip to Calshot we made the first little piece of, what we hope to be a regular series, with Harry Jackson.  It's called "60 Second Interviews" and does exactly what is says on the tin.

Click the link to watch the first ever AVP Tv  broadcast.

CTT Affiliation PDF Print E-mail

Gofer and Dean riding the CS Dynamo 2 up 10Axe Valley Pedallers have moved up yet anothor gear with the exciting news that the club has now become affiliated to Cycling Time Trials (CTT), the organising body for time trialing in England.

Time trialing is a form of road racing run over a course of set distance.  Each rider sets off on their own and races against the clock, the clock starts when they cross the start line and finishes when they cross the finish line.  The great thing about time trialing is that you don't have to reach the lofty heights of a super hero athelete to enjoy it, you can simply choose to race against your own personal best (PB) time.
