The Axe Valley Pedallers left the Axe valley for April's Sunday club ride with the meeting point being Dartington Cider Press Centre with the 8 riders arriving from several directions. The sun was shining and the day was promising to get a bit warmer. We all had a hot drink to get us going and then we hit the cycle trail into Totnes - a little bit of off-road along the river was a pleasant start and then it was through Totnes to our first hill, it was pretty steep and long which took us all by surprise! Of course, if you go up you have to come down, so we had a nice descent towards the picturesque village of Ashprington. We carried on along the beautiful River Dart to Dittisham where we stopped for lunch in a popular cafe serving lovely local foods.

The Axe Valley Pedallers have just held their first ‘Tweed Run’. A cycling event of an informal nature, yet traditional style, where cyclists gathered, cycled a short distance and then settled down to enjoy a cream tea together on a sunny English Spring day.
Sebastian Cope the Charity Officer for Axe Valley Pedallers, is raising funds for Headway Devon and came up with the idea of the Tweed Run as a way of collecting sponsorship and also to encourage cyclists to doff their lycra and don their tweed.

Alistair ‘Madal’ Cope, a member of the Axe Valley Pedallers cycle club, working as a cycle adviser for The Prostate Cancer Charity, recently met up with both Andy Parker the Regional Events Officer for British Cycling, and the local cycling legend Roy Hopkins. It was a blustery day on the seafront of Roy’s home town Teignmouth, and so the three took shelter in a cafe and huddled round a table with mugs of hot tea in their hands to discuss, as well you might guess, ‘cycling’!

Despite ‘doing our bit’ for climate change and riding whenever we can, the Axe Valley Pedallers will always be out whatever the weather!
The mountain bikers have been making the most of the winter conditions in preparation for the longer, lighter, warmer evenings by getting out on the many bridleways and tracks we have in our beautiful East Devon, and sometimes further afield.
